University landscape in Rwanda is changing through eLearning

Kigali | The use of eLearning is increasingly helping Rwandan universities to save costs and attract expert lecturers from abroad. This is assumed by many executives of these educational institutions. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Rwanda, Professor Nelson Ijumba, says: “The use of eLearning pays off for our institution, because travel costs, for example, can be eliminated or at least significantly reduced.“ According to him, the costs for guest lecturers would only be the fee for the lecturer, which would amount to about 1000 to 1500 dollars per month. Meanwhile already 2000 modules are online, which would help also to secure the knowledge of colleagues, who would stand shortly before the retirement. This shows that the advantages of using eLearning in Rwanda are now increasingly well known. The eLearning Africa conference held in Kigali last year, which also contributed to Africa-wide and international networking, certainly contributed to this and will be a guest in the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire from 23 to 25 October this year.
