1.) Which content should be animated?
“Less is more” also applies when using animation in eLearning. According to this, one should be aware beforehand which information in a course will be discussed at all and which information can also be left out. As soon as the content has been limited to the necessary extent, it is important to consider which aspects of it you would like to animate. This could be a particularly relevant aspect of content, for example, or one that can be illustrated particularly well by animation. In any case, it is important to reflect where and when it makes sense to use it. A pilot group can also contribute in the later process to determining whether animations have been used sensibly or whether they are used too often or too rarely.
2.) Selection of the style of animation
Once it is clear where and when an animation is to be used, the next step is to determine the way in which it is to be used. Whether a 2D cartoon animation, 3D animation, hand-drawn animation, infographics, or any other type of animation is used also depends on what you want to achieve or convey.
3.) creativity
Animations are a creative style form, with which, for example, a narrative style of communication, but also humour can be implemented well. Animations are therefore only effective when they are embedded in a higher-level mediation concept and awaken or enhance the fun of learning. This is exactly what needs to be implemented!
